Sarah is a fused glass artist based in Kildare, with over three decades devoted to her craft. Her creative journey began with stained glass in the early 2000s, evolving twelve years ago into the vibrant and expressive world of fused glass.
Deeply inspired by the natural world and abstract forms, Sarah is captivated by glass and its unique relationship with light - how it absorbs, reflects, and transforms its surroundings. Her work often takes shape in large, luminous panels, where layers of coloured fusible glass and delicate frits (finely crushed glass) come together to create pieces that feel both organic and alive.
Each creation is individually handcrafted, carrying its own character and story. Alongside her larger works, Sarah designs distinctive fused glass jewellery - miniature works of art intended to be worn and cherished.
Fused glass itself is a dance between control and unpredictability. Pieces of glass are layered and fired in a kiln at intense temperatures, where they soften, flow, and merge. The kiln becomes both tool and collaborator, subtly influencing each stage of the process. Many pieces return to the kiln multiple times, gradually evolving with each firing. In this transformative heat, glass becomes fluid, expressive - sometimes guided by the artist’s hand, and sometimes, as Sarah fondly suggests, by a touch of “kiln magic,” resulting in creations that are truly one of a kind.
